Bio for Jacqueline A. Holmes
Jacqueline A. Holmes, also known as Jackie, was born in Columbia, SC and reared in a small town called Gadsden, SC. She got married on June 23, 1982 and moved to Newberry, SC. She is the proud wife of Mr. Wilbert T. Holmes Sr. They have 5 adult children. After graduating from high school, she attended USC in Columbia, SC, where she was a member of the USC Marching Band, also earned an undergraduate degree in Education, as well as completing the first three years in the Register Nurse BA Program. Jacqueline graduated on the Dean’s List and President List. She continued her education and went on to receive her Master’s plus 30 hours in Elementary Education from Clemson University, where she also graduated on the Dean’s List and the President List.
Jacqueline joined the US Army, where she served a total of 38 years. She is a Desert Storm Veteran. Jacqueline retired in June 2017 as a Master Sergeant, promotable to a Sergeant Major. While in the military, she received numerous Awards and Achievements. Upon retirement, she was eligible for Legion of Merit Award. Jacqueline taught school for 38 years and retired in December 2013. Due to her love and passion for teaching and after failing at retirement, she is currently teaching 2nd grade at Gallman Elementary School with 40 plus years of experience.
Jacqueline is a member of the New Enoree Baptist Church, where she serves as a Deaconess, Usher, Missionary, and Pastor’s Aide. Life Time member of the SC Retired Education Association, South Carolina Education Association Membership Organizer for the School District of Newberry County, Newberry Rotary Club, Newberry Opera House Guild, Newberry Chapter of the NAACP, Notary, American Legion Post #219, West End Home and Community Watch Committee, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc, Poll Manager for Newberry Voter’s Registration, mentor/tutor, City of Newberry Census Complete Count Committee, Women Connecting Women Newberry Chapter, American Business Women Association, Congressman James Clyburn Fellow, Virtual/In-Person- Rotary Leadership Institute Facilitator, Women Home Aide Society Lodge #42, God’s Abundance For All People Board member, Newberry Juneteenth Organizer, Scholarship Reader for Retired South Carolina Education Association, and Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society, and a newly elected member of the Newberry Opera House Board.
Holmes was elected as the first black female, to the Newberry City Council, in July 2020. Councilwoman Holmes wrote the proposal for the first Juneteenth, in which the city celebrated year three this past June. She was just reelected to City Council for a four-year term. She faithfully serves the West End Side of Newberry, which is District. During her off time, she enjoys delivering food to those in need, assisting those in need of social services type assistance, going to antique car shows, driving her 1964 Chevrolet Corvair, shopping, traveling, reading, writing, and listening to Country Music especially, Darius Rucker and Gospel Music. Her motto is, “He who does the work, does the learning ’and “We have not because we ask not” LIVE, LOVE and LAUGH!

SC End of Course Examination Program
State End of Course (EOCEP) exams are taken in the following courses: English II, Algebra I, Intermediate Algebra, Biology I, US History, and HIS 202.
The End-of-Course Examination Program (EOCEP) is a statewide assessment program for specific courses awarding units of credit in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The exams must be taken to earn credit for the course. Additionally, scores must be counted as 20% of the final grade in the aligned course. EOCEP test items are written to assess the knowledge and skills described in the academic standards. Links to the standards are provided by clicking on the course names above. Electronics Use During State Testing
Per SCDE guidelines, during testing, students may not be in possession of any electronic devices that can be used for communicating, timing, creating images, or storing images. These devices include but are not limited to cellphones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices, e-readers, and any other electronic device not used for testing*. Devices will be collected by the test administrator and returned after testing is complete. *This restriction does not apply to medical devices documented and approved for use during testing in a student’s IEP, 504 Plan, or Individual Health Plan.

The Newberry Middle School Student Council participated in the SCASC District Leadership Rally hosted at Crescent High School today. Student Council Vice President, Jordan Boateng, and 7th Grade Representative, Kade Hamilton, delivered a compelling presentation titled "Journeying as Leaders: Riding the Waves of Leadership." Krista Dickson was voted on by her colleagues as this year's Distinguished Literacy Teacher for Newberry Middle School. She showcases a commitment to promoting literacy and lifelong reading and writing each and every day in her classroom. She will now go on to be represented at the District wide Distinguished Literacy Teacher Banquet on November 14 where she will join all school representatives across the district to be recognized. Congratulations, Mrs. Dickson!

The Laurens & Newberry Business & Industry Showcase will be held at the Laurens Center for Advanced Manufacturing on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Our 8th grade students are invited to attend this event to allow them to learn about career opportunities in Newberry and Laurens counties.
