Bulldogs,

The 24-25 school year is now officially in full swing! We have enjoyed seeing and getting to know

our students thus far this year. Within the first few weeks of school, administrators and

counselors met with all four of our grade levels in separate sessions. We reviewed school

expectations and informed students of services and supports that are in place to help them

succeed in all areas of their educational journey. We began our after-school tutoring program

the week of August 19th. You will find that schedule in this newsletter.

In each Bulldog Monthly newsletter, we discuss data points. We use this information to set goals

and improve each year. Below you will find attendance data from the last three years for NHS.

Regular attendance is a crucial piece of academic success. The state of South Carolina only

allows for a student to miss 10 days in a semester class and 5 days in a quarter class. If a student

is absent beyond those days, he/she must recover seat time to get credit for the course. Medical

excuses and parent notes need to be turned in to keep a student from being “truant”, but these

notes do not count towards seat time. We will hold seat time sessions in our cafeteria beginning

in October for any student that is on track to exceed the 10-day limit.

In addition to attending school, students need to be on time. NHS opens its doors each morning

at 7:25. Students have access to breakfast from 7:25-7:55. Students must be in their first block

class by 8:00. Any student who is not in class at that time is tardy. As tardies accumulate,

students are issued warnings, parents are contacted, and students eventually are disciplined.

Our goal is that no student miss instruction due to being late. Please work with us to encourage

students to be on time each day.

I am thankful to work with a community that is supportive of our schools and our young people.

Thank you for all you do to make Newberry High School a better place!
